Digital tools for writing

To enhance the effectiveness of writing, digital tools like Google Docs and QuillBot can be utilized. The main purpose of QuillBot, an AI-powered writing tool, is to help users with grammar correction, sentence structure improvement, and paraphrasing. To assist users in improving their writing, it provides features including synonym suggestions, grammatical correction, and style enhancements. On the other hand, Google Docs is an online document editor that facilitates real-time collaboration. It allows multiple people to simultaneously write, edit, and comment on documents. It supports a process-oriented approach to writing by facilitating peer feedback and iterative writing.

QuillBot supports the revision and editing stages of the writing process. It focuses on subskills such as grammar accuracy, sentence coherence, vocabulary enhancement, and stylistic improvements. Its paraphrasing feature also aids creativity by helping learners rephrase sentences in different ways. Moreover, when we check the grammar of our writing, it will show which parts need to be corrected and there are scores as well. Furthermore, QuillBot  is best suited for elementary to advanced learners (A2–C1) who are developing their writing accuracy and stylistic skills. QuillBot is useful in academic and professional settings where accurate grammar and polished language matter. Its AI-driven grammar and style corrections help with self-editing, and the paraphrasing feature promotes creativity and vocabulary growth. However, it can suggest unnatural phrasing and miss subtle errors. Overreliance may hinder critical thinking. I would use QuillBot selectively for revision, as a complement to—but not a replacement for—teacher feedback.

All stages of the writing process, from drafting to revising and finalizing the text, are supported using Google Docs. The comment and suggestion mode helps students focus on clarity, coherence, and content development through feedback from peers or teachers. Google Docs is very ideal for students at various levels (A1–C1), especially in classroom environments that emphasize collaborative writing and revision. Google Docs focuses on facilitating collaborative writing, revision, and reflection, which aligns with writing process pedagogy. Its accessibility and real-time feedback features enhance student engagement and motivation. However, it requires a stable internet connection and some digital literacy. The quality of peer feedback can vary, thus requiring teacher guidance. I will definitely integrate Google Docs into my teaching because of its flexibility in supporting all stages of writing and promoting collaboration, which is essential for developing writing skills in the modern classroom.

In the QuillBot activity, students first draft a short narrative independently. They then use QuillBot to check grammar and get paraphrasing suggestions to improve sentence variety and coherence. After revising their texts based on this feedback, they share their drafts with peers or the teacher for further comments. For the Google Docs activity, students write their first narrative draft on the platform, where the teacher and peers provide feedback on grammar, cohesion, and structure through comments. Students revise accordingly and submit a second draft, using Google Docs’ version history to track their improvements. This process promotes reflection and iterative development of narrative writing skills.

Overall, both QuillBot and Google Docs are digital tools that are beneficial in handling various aspects of writing development. QuillBot is excellent for grammar refinement, while Google Docs supports a collaborative and iterative writing process. Integrating these two tools can effectively enhance students' writing skills.
